Our Streets

Curbs, gutters and rubbish

These may appear mundane matters – but have a big impact on our lives, especially as we are primarily pedestrians/walkers.

  • we support the City’s program for replacing uneven tarmac on footpaths with “bluestone” pavers. And the replacement of sand around street trees, with a fixed pebble base;
  • residents and others should always report broken/dangerous utility inspection pit covers (Telstra, water, electricity, gas etc) – they are dangerous. Ring the Town Hall on 9658 9658;
  • call the Police if you see unacceptable street behaviour; drinking, fighting, tipping over bins etc are dangerous as well as illegal. Ring 000;
  • all rubbish bins should only be on the street when due for collection. Some bins remain out for long periods – please ring the city on 9658 9658. Or contact Health Services at Town Hall. For issues west of Swanston Street – sue.clarke@melbourne.vic.gov.au and issues east of Swanston Street – leanne.edwards@melbourne.vic.gov.au
  • We made this submission to a State Government Review of the problems of Litter.

  1. Res 3000 replied to you in person forwarding CBD parking information downloaded from Council’s website.Thank you for writing to us.

  2. I leave on Queen St between Flinders & Flinders Lane. While I have no need for parking for myself, visitors are put off by the cost and duration of street parking. With the new overnight fee revenue grab, I wonder whether it is time for a resident’s permit – at least evenings & weekends. Does the group have a position on this?

    • Most Liveable City…??

      Yes Residents should have a transferable Parking Extension Permits!! How do we shop and deliver large goods or food? – with a Ticket.

      4 hr and overnight is the minimum for a 1hr Spot with a “CBD PERMIT”

      - Rates are paid for Services and the Residents don’t get much consideration from the Council?

      The 24 hour noise of Rubbish Trucks anyone?

      • Hi Wayne – Thanks for logging on…. not sure what you mean by “Parking Extension Permits”. Do you mean “Resident Permits”? There are some 19.000 CBD residents so it would not be practical for CoM to give each a parking permit, though Carlton and some of the peripheral suburbs can apply. Also if you live in CBD high-rise or otherwise, goods and services are delivered to occupants and Owners Corporations. for e.g. removals companies can book in for extended time in a loading bay through CoM. Yes Rubbish Trucks is a major concern amongst residents especially the number of companies that might service one small location.We are regularly in touch with engineering services so if you can be more specific we can pass on your concern directly. Please don’t give up on that one – others haven’t!I have added a couple of links to the page above that might help.
